Vehicle Identification Number
Scan capability overview
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) usecase from Anyline OCR Plugin allows you to easily scan Vehicle Identification Numbers from cars.
VINs are used for insurance claims, ordering spare parts and a wide range of other transportation and automotive processes.
The VIN must conform be 17 characters long and only include uppercase letters (without O, I and Q) and Numbers.
Check Digit
According to ISO 3779, the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) includes a check digit (section 3.8) located at position 9. This check digit, which can be a digit or the letter X
, ensures the VIN’s correctness. Anyline’s VIN scanner can validate this check digit and continue scanning if it is incorrect, thereby increasing the scanner’s accuracy. However, VINs that do not conform to the standard will no longer be scanned. By default, the check digit is not validated.
To enable check digit validation, set validateCheckDigit
to true
when configuring the plugin.
